Program Overview

The course teaches and sharpen design specialists to design an innovative products and services. The course will address design fundamentals and build your entrepreneurial, experiential, collaborative and professional skills further through projects and assignments. Here, you will learn to design with understanding of the end-users and their needs through experiential and human-centered design approaches. You will have to think out of the box and be able to frame  innovative solutions with aesthetics and usability. You will be encouraged to pit your skills against others in exciting local and international competitions, as well as to participate in industry initiated projects.


This course prepares you for the dynamically creative profession where the boundaries and definitions are constantly challenged. There are new and unlimited opportunities in the profession. Engineering Design Basics

  • Fundamentals of Welding, Fabrication & Sheet Metal Work.

Fabrication Technology

  • Awareness of welding symbology – Fillet, butt weld etc.

  • Basic awareness of Manufacturing Processes - Shape forming, machining, finishing, metal joining & Heat treatment.

  • Overview of rolling process used to fabricate cylinder, extrusion process used to manufacture pipe etc.

  • Difference between Cylinder, Pipe and Tube.

  • Difference between Plate & Sheet metal.

  • Material Study - Selection, Awareness & Mechanical properties.

  • Mechanical Structure - Awareness, Standard, Material & Weight.

  • Dimensioning standard as per ASME.

  • Pipe and Fitting basic awareness.

  • Product Design Morphology: Preliminary and Detailed design.

  • Technique of Flowcharting, Creativity techniques, Translating Customer Needs & Product Development process.

  • Value Engineering: Advantages & Applications in Product Design. 

  • Problem Identification and Selection, Analysis of Functions & Anatomy of Function. 

  • Primary versus Secondary versus Tertiary Functions.

  • Functional Analysis: Functional Analysis System Technique (FAST) & Case Studies.
